Gettin' Jacked for Record Store Day
Our favorite holiday is this Saturday. Yes, we're talking about Record Store Day! And to celebrate the occasion, DJs Human Highlight Film and Cool It Now will be spinning a special New Jack City set at Everyday Music on NE Sandy. We feel very lucky to be living in Portland with so many amazing record stores to help us keep our new jack collection fresh and fully loaded. So get on out there and support them, and while you're at it, let's get some dancing going in the aisles.

Color Me Good
If you haven't listened to Color Me Badd in a while, you're missing out. Take a moment to revisit "All 4 Love" and "I Wanna Sex You Up" and I promise you'll find yourself dancing and/or conceiving a child within mere moments.
A bigger surprise though is the strength of their late-era material. Who knew? At New Jack City we usually keep our focus dialed into New Jack Swing's late 80's/early 90's glory years, but I'm not so snobby that I can't play a 1996 jam if the artist is still bringing it. You think Color Me Badd was still bringing it in 1996? How 'bout we let them answer that question:
I think I just made a baby.

Rest in peace, Heavy D
Sad times in New Jack City today. We lost one of the great ones. While Heavy D may be gone, his music will live on, and you better believe we'll be giving this man a proper tribute at NJC Thursday night.
I can't count the number of times I've been in the record store with DJ Cool It Now when all of the sudden he pops up from the crates smiling wide, waving a freshly picked Heavy D single. Heavy D got around. Not only did he churn out an endless stream of hits during his glorious career, but he also made a cameo appearance on seemingly every New Jack album ever produced. He's even on the Candy Rain single! Does it get any better than that???
Thanks for the memories and the music Heavy D. We promise to keep your legacy alive the one way we know how: by dropping those sweet-sounding platters on the turntables every chance we get.
